AMP announces appointment of Melinda Howes

AMP has announced the appointment of experienced industry executive Melinda Howes as its new Group Executive Superannuation and Investments and member of the group Executive Committee to commence 29 January 2024.

Howes is currently a partner in KPMG’s superannuation and actuarial practices and prior to this was BT Financial Group’s Managing Director / General Manager, Superannuation between 2014 and 2021.

Howes will lead AMP’s combined Superannuation-Master Trust and Investments businesses. The role will drive the strategy for AMP’s Super business, as well as overseeing Investment performance and management.

The appointment follows an extensive internal and external search, and the appointments in July of Edwina Maloney to Group Executive, Platforms and Matt Lawler to Group Executive, Advice.

AMP Chief Executive Alexis George said: “Melinda is a highly respected leader in the superannuation industry and will be able to build on the significant work we’ve undertaken in recent years to simplify and strengthen our offer for members.”

Equip Super appoints new Chair

Michael Cameron has been appointed as Chair of the Equip Super Trustee Board in November 2023. He is an experienced Non-Executive Director and Board Chair, currently chairing Resolution Capital Limited and Heritage and People’s Choice Limited. He is also Deputy Chair at iCare (NSW).

Previously he was the Group CEO of Suncorp, and The GPT Group, as well as the Group CFO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He held senior executive roles in a diverse range of property and financial services groups in private and public sector organisations, as well as not-for-profits.

Cameron is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a fellow of the Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting).

Former abrdn Australia CEO and Managing Director joins KONU

Brett Jollie, former abrdn Australia CEO and Managing Director has joined KONU’s leadership team.

Jollie spent more than 23 years at abrdn, formerly known as Aberdeen Standard Investments, mostly in senior Australian wealth, funds and business management roles and was also on the board of the Financial Services Council industry peak body for more than six years.K

Jollie said: “I am joining a team of industry practitioners with extensive real experience and a consultancy that is very well placed to provide specialist practical support to our clients as they seek to optimise their growth opportunities at a time of rapid change. I’m excited at what lies ahead and am looking forward to contributing.”

Keynote 8 – Navigating the energy transition: opportunities, investor strategies and policy needs

Born in Brindisi, Italy, Daniel was a young child when he moved with his family to Australia. He grew up in Canberra and completed his first degrees – arts and law – at the ANU. He then completed a Master of Economics (University of Sydney) and a PhD in economics from Yale.

He lectured at Monash University, was an economic adviser in the Gillard government and was a Victorian MP from 2014 to 2018. As Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer of Victoria, Daniel helped deliver major infrastructure projects and developed innovative financing structures for community projects.

In 2018 he was preselected for the new federal seat of Fraser and became its first MP at the 2019 election, re-elected in 2022 and 2025. From 2022 to 2025, Daniel was chair of the House of Representatives’ Standing Economics Committee in which he chaired inquiries; economic dynamism, competition and business formation and insurers’ responses to 2022 major floods claims.

In 2025, he became the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services.

In August 2022, Daniel published ‘Safety Net: The Future of Welfare in Australia’, which aims to explore the ways in which an insurance approach can improve the effectiveness of government service delivery.
