Inflation, public debt and increasing lifespans are creating increased pressure on the retirement landscape across the globe. However, policymakers are working to bolster retirement security in three ways: access, automation and adequacy, according to the 2026 Natixis Global Retirement Index.
The report, released Sept. 22, notes that 69% of investors surveyed from 21 countries in 2025 “are worried that today’s rising prices are eroding the future value of their savings,” and 72% are concerned that increasing public debt could lead to retirement benefit cuts.
Notably, 43% of individual investors worldwide “believe it will take a miracle to achieve retirement security,” according to the report. Thankfully, a miracle may not be needed, as policymakers across the globe are working to update their retirement systems with the aim of addressing investors’ fears.
