After what was an extremely busy 12 months with the Productivity Commission and the Royal Commission concluding and the Protecting Your Super and Putting Members’ Interests First (PMIF) changes being introduced, just to name a few, we now face further challenges.

The implementation of the Royal Commission recommendations presents an intimidating schedule. A further review into the Australian Retirement System has been announced with a report date of next June. APRA is pressing ahead with fund traffic lights or heat maps and funds will have to begin to implement the Member Outcomes assessments and business planning requirements along with the PMIF changes.

As we contemplate the scale of change and the aggressive deadlines it is important that we occasionally pause, lift our heads above the maelstrom and catch our breath.

This is why events like the ASFA Conference are so important. They provide a chance to take a break from the operational and technical detail and hear from thought leaders, both within and outside superannuation, who can inspire and challenge your thinking. Away from your everyday surrounds, the Conference gives you time for personal reflection, an opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals, to learn new ideas and fortify yourself for the year ahead.

If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to consider joining this year’s ASFA Conference. You can find all the details on the Conference website, in particular the program and the impressive list of speakers.

We’re in for a great 2019 event, and I look forward to seeing you there.
