Superannuation peak body ASFA today announces the appointment of Peter Chun, Chief Executive Officer of UniSuper, to its Board of Directors.
Mr Chun leads one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, with more than $158 billion in assets under management and approximately 670,000 members.
He brings more than 25 years’ experience across investment management, financial advice, and product development to the Board table, having held senior roles at Aware Super, Colonial First State and Macquarie Bank before joining UniSuper in 2021.
ASFA Chair Gary Dransfield said Mr Chun’s appointment further strengthens the depth and diversity of experience on the ASFA Board.
“We’re delighted to welcome Peter to the ASFA Board at such a pivotal time for the superannuation system.
“As the leader of a fund with deep roots in higher education and a long record of managing most of its assets in-house, Peter will add valuable insight to ASFA’s work as we continue to advocate for the strength, sustainability and inclusivity of Australia’s world-class retirement system,” Mr Dransfield said.
Mr Chun said he was honoured to join the ASFA Board and contribute to its mission of advancing Australia’s retirement outcomes, especially as the issue of access to advice is becoming more relevant to the national retirement conversation.
“ASFA’s unique role in representing the full breadth of the superannuation sector, from industry, retail, and public sector funds through to service providers is more important than ever,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues across the industry on important matters including cyber security, implementing payday super, and ensuring every Australian can access quality advice and achieve the retirement they deserve through the DBFO reforms,” he said.
ASFA CEO Mary Delahunty said Mr Chun ’s appointment brings valuable insight from one of the nation’s most respected funds.
“Peter has demonstrated genuine leadership in combining investment discipline with a strong member focus,” Ms Delahunty said.
“Peter’s experience across both strategic and operational aspects of superannuation will enrich the Board’s perspective as we look to the next stage of reform and opportunity,” she concluded.
