Super Guru for you
The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) Interim CEO Jim Minto is urging Australians to get super smart with their money and use the Super Guru website and calculators to help them understand and make the most of their super.
Mr Minto said many Australians were disengaged from their superannuation and failed to realise the hidden potential of their super balances.
“I just love superannuation,” he said. “It helps Australians enjoy a better retirement and it offers everyone a means to build wealth if they take the time to own their own super.”
With many Australians currently receiving or about to receive tax refunds from their tax returns, now is the time to think about contributing more to super.
The Super Guru website was designed by ASFA’s writers and industry-leading policy and research teams, who share their decades of experience in super, investing, tax and government policy, to equip people with the knowledge they need to confidently speak to their super find or financial advisor.
Mr Minto said calculator tools on the website enabled people to work out how much money they need for retirement, how to optimise their contributions and how small savings will reap rewards over the long term.
“Super Guru provides working Australians with independent information,” he said.
“It is a site for every Australian whatever your age or stage of life, whether you’re studying, working, have kids or are retiring.
“Whether you want to understand how super works, when you can access it, how to choose a fund or how much Age Pension you will be entitled to, Super Guru is for you.
“It provides helpful information on super for women, the self-employed, small business and part-time or casual workers.
“Super is something that should interest everyone and the site provides valuable information about marriage and super, divorce and super, insurance in super, mortgages and super, accessing super in tough times and what happens to your super after death.
“It arms you with the questions you need to ask your fund.”
New to Australia? Moving overseas? Super Guru has relevant information.
Super Guru also has useful links to ASIC’s MoneySmart website, the Australian Taxation Office – Super, the Department of Human Services and the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal.
