ASFA welcomes new Treasury team
ASFA welcomes today’s appointment of Treasurer the Hon. Joe Hockey, Assistant Treasurer Arthur Sinodinos and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer Mr Steven Ciobo to the Treasury portfolio.
This is a strong team who, given the depth and breadth of their experience, will be in a position to deliver good outcomes for the superannuation and financial services industries and most importantly for the Australian community.
They have all demonstrated that they are well aware of the challenges facing superannuation and the opportunities provided for individuals, businesses and the financial system by the growing superannuation pool.
We look forward to working with Treasurer Hockey, Assistant Treasurer Sinodinos and Parliamentary Secretary Ciobo to resolve the challenges currently facing the superannuation industry, in particular the implementation of recent reforms such as Stronger Super and MySuper. We will also seek discussions regarding the future design of the superannuation system and how it may be adjusted over time to accommodate the challenges posed by an ageing population.
We will welcome further details of the foreshadowed financial system inquiry, in which superannuation will no doubt play a major role.
Superannuation touches many other areas of policy such as health and ageing, infrastructure and investment and we equally look forward to working with the responsible Ministers in due course.
ASFA also congratulates Senator Mathias Cormann on his appointment to Cabinet as Minister for Finance, and wish him well in his new role.
