About

Recent international conflict has seen state-based actors increasingly being the subject of sanctions, increasing the likelihood that the activities of a superannuation fund may be caught. It is therefore critical that trustees of superannuation funds are aware of and manage the compliance and investment risks of Australia’s sanctions regime. This unique workshop, facilitated by Jonathan Steffanoni, Managing Partner, QMV Legal, will assist trustees in understanding the different sanctions regimes, recent “Magnitsky” changes to the way in which sanctions regimes work, and the practical steps that trustees can take to manage future sanctions risks in an environment of heightened geopolitical tension.

Enrol now.

Key topics to be discussed include:

  • Australia’s United Nations and Autonomous Sanctions Regimes
  • The Magnitsky Reforms
  • An overview of prohibited activities
  • DFAT, the AFP, and the Consolidated List
  • Activities of a superannuation trustee that may be caught
  • Penalties and taking reasonable steps to comply
  • Risks associated with foreign Sanctions Regimes
  • Positioning to manage sanctions risks to investments.

Who should attend?

  • trustees and directors
  • CEOs, and senior management staff
  • in-house lawyers
  • governance, compliance and risk professionals
  • those who support the board/trustee function.
