The Hon. Julie Bishop
The Honourable Julie Bishop is one of Australia’s most recognised and respected former politicians, both at home and abroad.
She was the longest-serving member in the West Australian seat of Curtin, Australia’s first female Foreign Minister, and the first female to be Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in its 75-year history. Her political career spanned 20 years, during which she served under four different Liberal leaders.
During her time as Foreign Minister, Julie led the international response to the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine, for which she received global acclaim.
Julie can be found cheering on the West Coast Eagles during AFL football season, having formerly been the club’s number one ticket holder and board member. Prior to entering politics, she was Managing Partner of the law firm Clayton Utz in Perth.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide in 1978 and attended Harvard Business School in Boston in 1996, completing the Advanced Management Program for Senior Managers. In 2017, the University of Adelaide awarded Julie the Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University for her contribution to Australian parliamentary service.
