Parallel session 5B

Investment in an era of climate change

The pressure is on. Members today need an understanding of climate risks and opportunities across all asset classes, as part of their overall long-term strategy.

In 2017, the recommendations of the G20 Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) outlined the need for the private sector to conduct forward-looking scenario-based assessments of climate-related risks and opportunities. While the disclosure uptake has been slow, members are now upping the ante and developing the necessary skills and tools to understand climate risks.

As Australian regulators become more vocal and directors’ increasingly liable, the onus is now on investors to appropriately price climate risk and reward climate opportunities. It’s time to better understand, measure and manage the effects of climate change.

This session aims to increase awareness and support an industry-wide approach to the assessment and management of climate risk and opportunities.
