Head of Macquarie Asset Management
Shemara Wikramanayake is the Head of Macquarie Asset Management and oversees over $A500 billion in assets globally with approximately 1,500 staff in 20 countries.
Prior to taking up the role in 2008, Shemara worked for four years in the predecessor business of the Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets Division (MIRA) of Macquarie Asset Management. She was head of this division in North America, based in New York where her role included establishing and managing infrastructure and real asset funds in the US and Canada.
Before moving to North America, Shemara led the prudential team within Macquarie Capital for four years. In this role she was responsible for commercial review of global transactions in which Macquarie Capital took a principal position, including acquiring seed assets for prospective infrastructure and real asset funds.
Prior to this, Shemara spent 12 years in Macquarie Capital working on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, restructuring, privatisations and valuations. She worked in offices in Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Before joining Macquarie, Shemara worked as a corporate lawyer at Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney.
