TASPLAN tops super industry for social media

The superannuation industry's best marketing and communications campaigns were honoured this morning at the ASFA 2011 Communications Awards presentation in Brisbane.

Tasmanian-based super fund, TASPLAN, was honoured for its impressive and innovative social media strategy this morning at the ASFA 2011 Communications Awards presentation in Brisbane.

The best use of social media award was presented to TASPLAN's chief executive officer, Neil Cassidy, for the fund's 'Super Straight Up' campaign at a special breakfast presentation held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"ASFA congratulates TASPLAN for the excellent job they have done in communicating to and engaging members, especially younger members, via social media," said chief executive officer of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), Pauline Vamos.

"It is so important for Australians to engage with their super as early as possible to ensure they have the best opportunity to achieve dignity in retirement," said Ms Vamos.

"TASPLAN's social media strategy aimed to increase awareness and engagement in super and financial planning early in the lives and careers of young members, giving them the information they need to improve their retirement outcomes."

A record number of entries were received for the 2011 ASFA Communications Awards across the eight Award categories open for entries.

The big winner of the day was HOSTPLUS who scooped the pool, taking out four of the nine awards, including the first ever ASFA Communications Award grand prize, Campaign of the Year.

Entries were judged by a panel of industry peers in the first round, with the top campaigns going through to a final round of judging by a number of industry and external marketing and communications experts.

The ASFA Communications Awards were this year held in-line with ASFA's National Conference and Super Expo, the largest pensions conference in the world. The Conference continues to run at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre until 11 November.
