After studying this subject, students should be able to:

  • understand issues related to adequacy and the operation of Australia’s retirement income system
  • identify the main activities involved in the administration of superannuation funds during the benefit payment phase
  • describe the benefit payment process, including death and disablement benefits
  • explain the role of the administrator in dealing with retirement income streams
  • describe the minimum legal requirements for trustees of superannuation funds in reporting to members
  • outline the procedure to be followed in relation to the division of superannuation assets on the breakdown of marriage
  • outline the tasks undertaken by an administrator at year end
  • understand the requirements and processes for dealing with complaints
