FTSE ASFA AUSTRALIA INDEX SERIES

FOR A CLEARER PICTURE OF PERFORMANCE

Institutional investors in Australia, including superannuation funds, rely on indices to benchmark their fund’s performance, communicate this to their members, and to assess the performance of their fund managers.

Until now, benchmarks for the Australian equity market have only been calculated on a pre-tax basis. Fund managers haven't had a standard industry after-tax benchmark.

This can create a misalignment between fund managers and superannuation funds, as some investment decisions can be attractive on a pre-tax basis but unattractive on an after-tax basis.

As a result, there is increasing pressure amongst superannuation funds to move from measuring fund managers on a pre-tax basis to an after-tax basis.

FTSE and ASFA have come together to help address this misalignment by creating the first Australian index series with tax-adjusted benchmarks.

The FTSE ASFA Australia Index Series has been designed with superannuation funds, institutional and retail investors in mind, to better align investment decisions with tax positions. All types of investors need a clearer picture of performance.
