  The Communications Discussion Group provides a forum where participants can openly raise, discuss and debate various trends and issues faced by the superannuation industry in the area of effective communication. ie how the various industry participants (trustees, funds, administrators, call centres) share and exchange information with members that produce their intended result. The ASFA/CSA National Defined Benefits Discussion Group meets in Sydney and Melbourne. The group provides a forum for participants to discuss issues specific to the defined benefit sector of the superannuation industry. Discussions cover a variety of topics including funding and solvency issues, structural constraints in the management of DB funds, legislative and regulatory developments, law reform priorities for the DB sector, pension liabilities, the impact of local and international accounting standards and taxation issues affecting DB funds. The group provides a forum where participants can openly raise, discuss, and debate various trends and issues faced by the Superannuation industry in the area of financial crime. Discussions encompass a variety of financial crime matters including fraud, corruption, money laundering, terrorism financing, and associated regulatory developments. The Victorian Fund Taxation DG provides a forum for members to discuss and share views on the current developments in taxation for superannuation funds and superannuation benefits. Topics include the proposed new Taxation of Financial Arrangements (TOFA) regime, Simpler Super and the ongoing issue around foreign tax credit availability for income received from interests in US Limited Liability Companies/Partnerships. The Member Services Discussion Group focuses on identifying important issues that affect all super funds, employers and members. The topics and issues discussed cover administration, legislative and compliance, member communication, technology. A standing agenda item is the APRA Update where APRA rotate a representative through the meeting each month to brief the group on issues such as licensing, APRA audits and current issues. While small funds are the primary focus, the Group is in a unique position in that its participants deal directly with fund members.
