severe financial hardship
Definition
for the purpose of early release of benefits from a superannuation fund, ADF or RSA. The trustees of a superannuation fund may release otherwise preserved benefits to a member on the ground of severe financial hardship provided that:
the rules of the fund permit such a release;
they receive evidence that a member has been in continuous receipt of a Centrelink or Veterans' Affairs pension or income support allowance for at least 26 weeks (special circumstances apply to members who are older than 55 years and 39 weeks; and
they are satisfied that the member is unable to meet reasonable and immediate family living expenses.
