AIRLINES
Make sure you book your airfare early to take advantage of discounted fares. There are many airlines that fly from Australia to Hong Kong including Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Emirates. For detailed flight information and available options, please contact your preferred airline.

VISA AND PASSPORTS

Is my passport ready to travel?
Your passport must be:

  • Valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date
  • Not damaged, defaced or excessively worn
  • Showing a visa or permit, if you require one (for those non-Australian residents).

Do I need a visa or permit to travel to Hong Kong?
Most visitors who intend to stay for less than three months do not require a visa. This includes citizens & residents of the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. UK nationals are able to stay for up to 6 months without a visa or entry permit.

AIRPORT INFORMATION
Multi-award winning Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is located less than five flying hours from half of the world's population. With an abundance of retail and catering outlets they are the third busiest international passenger airport and operate the busiest international cargo facility in the world.

HKIA was named the World’s Best Airport in the annual passenger survey by Skytrax from 2001 to 2008 and also won the awards for Best Airport Asia and Best Airport Dining from 2007 to 2010.

TRANSPORT TO and FROM HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Taxis
Taxis offer a fast and flexible way to and from Hong Kong International Airport.

Taxis in Hong Kong are colour-coded according to their operating areas. Fortunately all types of taxis service the airport.

  • Red - Urban taxis serve all destinations throughout Hong Kong, including the airport, except Tung Chung Road and roads in south Lantau.
  • Green - New Territories (N.T.) taxis serve only the New Territories and specific roads in Lantau.
  • Blue - Lantau taxis serve all destinations in Lantau and the airport.

Taxi fares are charged by metered tariff with flag fall and charges displayed in the taxi. Extra charges include:

  • Tolls - the two-way tunnel toll is added to the fare when using the cross-harbour tunnel, and the one-way toll is added for all other tunnels.
  • Luggage - There is an extra charge per piece of luggage.
  • Tipping - usually confined to small change.

A taxi to the Island Shangri-La takes approximately 30 minutes and will cost approximately HK$450.

ISLAND SHANGRI-LA HOTEL LIMOUSINE TRANSFERS
Island Shangri-La Hotel is able to organise a vehicle to pick you up from the airport, if you have booked your accommodation with them.

Special transfer rates are:

  • Mercedes S350 – HK$790 one way
  • Rolls Royce Phantom – HK$1,200 one way
