Pauline Vamos – Bio
Pauline is the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), a qualified lawyer and an Associate of the Australian Compliance Institute. She joined ASFA in September 2007, bringing over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry to the role. Pauline is recognised as a leading voice in Australia, and throughout the Asia-Pacific region, on pension issues.
Pauline has been a regulator, corporate counsel, head of compliance and a strategic risk and compliance consultant as well as a Trustee Director. Pauline is also a member of the Federal Government’s Superannuation Advisory Committee and the Responsible Investment Academy Advisory Council.

Professor K. C. Chan |
Professor K. C. Chan – Bio
Professor K.C. Chan was born in 1957. Before assuming the post of Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor Chan was Dean of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Prior to joining the HKUST Business School in 1993, Professor Chan had spent nine years teaching at Ohio State University in the USA .
Professor Chan received his bachelor's degree in economics from Wesleyan University and both his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago. He is specialised in assets pricing, evaluation of trading strategies and market efficiency and has published numerous articles on these topics.
Before joining the Government, Professor Chan held a number of public service positions including Chairman of the Consumer Council; director of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange; member of the Commission on Strategic Development, Commission on Poverty, the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee, and the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation. Professor Chan is also former President of the Asian Finance Association and former President of Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools.

Vanessa Wang

Vanessa Wang – Bio
Vanessa Wang is the Head of Pension Fund Services for Citigroup’s Global Transaction Services. In this role, she is responsible for developing pension fund services and solutions across various capabilities in Citigroup.
Prior to joining Citi in 2010, Vanessa was a Partner and Asia Head of the Retirement, Risk and Finance business in Mercer since 2006. She has been providing consulting and advisory services to pension funds and multinational companies since 1991.
Vanessa is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and holds a Master of Science in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from the University of Minnesota.

Jim Minto

Jim Minto – Bio
Jim Minto was appointed Managing Director of TOWER Australia Group Limited in November 2006 following the separation of the Australian and New Zealand businesses of the TOWER Limited group. He had previously been Group Managing Director of TOWER Limited, overseeing the trans-Tasman TOWER businesses and reporting to the TOWER Limited Board.
Mr Minto joined TOWER Limited in 1988 in New Zealand, as head of the Group's Trust business and led several other TOWER businesses in New Zealand (including the Managed Funds and Health & Life) before taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer of TOWER New Zealand in early 2002. He left the New Zealand business in November 2002 to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer of TOWER Australia and then in March 2005, he was appointed Chief Executive of the trans-Tasman TOWER Limited group.
A Chartered Accountant, Mr Minto is a Board member of the Association of Super Funds of Australia (ASFA) and Non executive Director of Australia Finance Group Limited. He resident in Sydney, Australia.

Peter Smyth

Peter Smyth – Bio
Peter Smyth joined MetLife as Managing Director of the company’s Asia Pacific region in January, 2010. He is responsible for MetLife’s overall presence in the region – which currently includes Korea, China, Hong Kong (where he is based), Taiwan and Australia – together with its indirect activities in Southeast Asian markets.
A 30-year veteran of the insurance industry, Peter brings a broad range of international experience as a business leader to the role. He has a long and rich track record of success throughout Asia, Brazil and Europe.
Before joining MetLife, Peter was Executive Vice President – International at Hartford Life (HLI), based in Connecticut. He operated in a matrix structure with direct line management for Hartford Life Japan, Hartford Life Europe, Icatu-Harford (Brazil), Hartford Investments Canada, and Hartford Global Offshore Products (Bermuda and Ireland). Peter was a member of the HLI senior leadership team, one of four line-of-business leaders reporting to the President of HLI.
Before joining HLI, Peter was Regional General Manager of ING Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong. He had direct management responsibility at various times for businesses in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Thailand.

Ross Jones

Ross Jones – Bio
Ross Jones was appointed Deputy Chairman and Member of APRA for a five-year term commencing 1 July 2003 and was reappointed for another five-year term, commencing 1 July 2008. Within APRA he takes principal responsibility for superannuation/private pensions and chairs APRA's Enforcement Committee. He is President of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors, a group whose members include pension supervisors and regulators from more than 70 countries. He is also Vice Chairman of the OECD Working Party on Private Pensions and was a member of the Singapore Central Provident Fund Advisory Panel. Prior to joining APRA, Ross was a Commissioner of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. He was also an Associate Professor in the School of Finance and Economics at the University of Technology, Sydney for a number of years.

Jeremy Cooper

Jeremy Cooper – Bio
Jeremy Cooper is Chairman, Retirement Income at Challenger Limited: a full-time executive role involving aspects of thought leadership, research, policy development and public advocacy of Challenger’s philosophies in a range of areas.
Jeremy is a lawyer by training with experience across a broad range of financial services disciplines. Prior to joining Challenger, Jeremy was appointed by the Australian Government to chair a wide-ranging review of Australia’s superannuation system, now known as the ‘Cooper Review’.
Before his review role, Jeremy was deputy chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for five years from mid-2004.

Naomi Denning – Bio
Naomi Denning is Towers Watson’s Managing Director, Investment AP, with overall responsibility for the company's investment team in the Asia-Pacific region. She previously was regional head of Investment Consulting for Watson Wyatt in Asia Pacific.
Naomi joined Watson Wyatt in 1994 to manage the Investment Consulting practice in the Hong Kong office. In November 1996, Naomi became a Director of Watson Wyatt Hong Kong Limited and also the Head of Investment Consulting for the Asia-Pacific region including Greater China.
Naomi received a BSc. (Hons.), degree in Mathematics & Sports Science from Loughborough University of Technology (1987). She also completed her Executive MBA with Kellogg/HKUST, graduating in June 2009.
In May 2009, Naomi was recognized as one of the Top 25 most influential people in asset management in Asia by the Asian Investor magazine.

Steve Helmich

Steve Helmich – Bio
Steve Helmich has 37 years experience in Financial Services, the last 10 as AMP's Director Financial Planning, Advice & Services. In this role he oversees the operation of AMP Financial Planning, Hillross, Arrive and the Horizons Financial Planning Academy.
Steve has successfully completed a Diploma of Financial Planning, the Securities Institute Certificate course and Diploma, Associateship and Fellowship of the Insurance Institute. He completed the Advanced Executive Programme at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University – Chicago) in 1999.
Steve was the Chairman of the Financial Planning Association from August 2002 to November 2004 & in November 2007, the FPA Board awarded Steve ‘Life Membership’ thus recognising his significant contribution and ongoing active role in the industry. In September 2009, Steve was appointed as Trustee & Chair of Future2 (the foundation of the Australian financial planning profession). In April 2010, Steve was appointed to the Financial Planning Standards Board.

Alan Oates

Alan Oates – Bio
Alan Oates is a Director at Mercer and head of their Retirement Risk & Finance business in Hong Kong. He has responsibility for developing and delivering retirement plan solutions to Mercer's clients in the Hong Kong market as well as providing advice on the management of international benefits to multinational companies headquartered in Asia.
Prior to joining Mercer Hong Kong, Alan was a Principal and senior member of the International Consulting Group at Mercer in New York. His expertise includes management of retirement and benefits plans across multiple countries, international assignment strategy development, multi-country mergers and acquisitions, global benefits governance and multinational pooling.
Alan is a Fellow of UK's Institute of Actuaries (FIA) and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom with a first class honours degree in Mathematics. He speaks regularly in Hong Kong on retirement issues and is also an active author and speaker on international retirement issues. Prior to his consulting career in New York, Alan was with Mercer's Retirement, Risk and Finance team in Manchester, UK.

David Thomas

David Thomas – Bio
David Thomas is well known in the Asia Pacific region for his experience, credibility and passion for identifying, building and facilitating business and investment relationships between developed and emerging countries. His unique experience and powerful networks have accumulated over a 30 year career in London, Hong Kong and Sydney. He managed his own financial services business in Hong Kong for 8 years (1987 - 1995) which provided unique insights and first hand experience of the changing landscape within the Asia Pacific region, particularly the opening up of China, the rise of Japan and the Asian tigers, and the emergence of India. More recently, his influence and activities have extended to Latin America and Eastern Europe driven by his interest and passion for the economic potential and growing influence of the four "BRIC countries" (Brazil, Russia, India and China).
As well as working with companies within many industry sectors (e.g. retail, professional services, manufacturing, food, education, publishing, design and technology) David continues to support financial services companies seeking to expand their global footprint, leveraging business and investment networks throughout the region, leading an annual mission to the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong, and as the Chairman of the Australasian Financial Forum in Australia.

Barry Rafe

Barry Rafe – Bio
Barry is an actuary who has spent most of his career as a Management Consultant.
In 2005 Barry was appointed Managing Director of Mellon Human Resources & Investor solutions. Mellon had 400 staff in Australia and were looking to divest. Barry worked with Mellon for two years to restructure and divest the business.
Prior to this Barry was a Strategy Partner with Accenture and was involved in developing their insurance and banking strategy. In this role he advised many of Australia’s largest financial services businesses on distribution and product development.
Barry ran the financial services practice at Trowbridge consulting and was involved in some of Australia’s largest financial services transactions including as lead actuarial consultant to the National Australia Bank on their acquisition of MLC and CBA on their acquisition of Colonial.
Barry is currently President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and chair of the Institute's public policy committee. He has facilitated the Institutes professionalism course for new qualified actuaries.
Barry has also been an ASFA Council member and Treasurer of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia.

Harold Kim

Harold Kim – Bio
Dr. Kim is currently Managing Director and Head of the Cross Asset Group for Citigroup Global Markets in Hong Kong, covering financial intermediary sales and investor structuring for equity, fixed income and hybrid products for Asia.
He is also a founder of and Responsible Officer for Citi First Investment Management Limited, a Hong Kong SFC-registered investment advisor with assets under management in excess of US$5 billion (as of June 2011).
He originally started at Salomon Brothers (a predecessor of Citigroup) in 1993, and has since served in a variety of capacities at Salomon/Citigroup, including head of regional sales and structuring, and senior equity derivatives trader, both in Hong Kong, and quantitative research analyst in New York.
Prior to joining Salomon, he was a lecturer at Princeton University. Dr. Kim started his career on Wall Street in corporate finance at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in 1986. He earned his B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.
Dr. Kim also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he teaches courses in advanced derivative applications, and served as a past President of the American Club Hong Kong.

Josef Pilger

Josef Pilger – Bio
Josef is Executive Director in Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office with 20 years financial services experience in Australia and Europe.
He worked in several strategic and operational industry and advisory roles for leading organisations in the insurance, wealth management and superannuation industry in AsiaPacific, Europe and the US. He has senior executive experience as Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Executive Board of a bank-owned superannuation fund in Germany.
He led large business transformation programs in wealth distribution, customer management and back office; he designed and implemented pioneering distribution, product and back office strategies; Josef designed and implemented risk management frameworks.
Recently, Josef run a number of strategic and operational projects for superannuation funds and wealth managers in Australia on business and distribution strategy, efficiency, future of advice, distribution and growth.

Lorraine Berends – Bio
Lorraine joined Marvin & Palmer Associates, a U.S. based global equity manager, in May 2000 and is responsible for growing Marvin & Palmer’s business throughout Asia. She has worked for over 30 years in the pension and investment industry.
Lorraine served on the Board of ASFA for 12 years including 3 years as Chair. She is Chair of the Investment Management Consultants Association, having joined the Board in 2001. Lorraine is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, a Fellow of ASFA, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a BSc from Monash University, Melbourne.

Prior to joining CBUS in January 2008, David was the CEO for Emergency Services and State Super (ESSSuper). David has also been the CEO for JUST Super as well as the National Marketing and Communications Manager for STA.
David is also Australia's representative on the UNPRI global board, one of 13 members of the board worldwide.
Before moving into superannuation, David had an industrial relations background including positions at the FSU and CPSU.

From 2006 to 201 1, John was Practice Team Leader for the firm's Tax and Superannuation Practice.
John's practice includes:
- trust, regulatory and tax advice for superannuation funds
- trust and tax advice for managed schemes and trusts, and
- tax and regulatory advice for life companies in relation to policies, policyholders, management of statutory funds and distribution matters.

Ka Shi Lau is the Managing Director & CEO of Bank Consortium Trust Co. Ltd. and BCT Financial Limited. Previously, Ms Lau was Vice President (Marketing & Research) of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation. Graduated from Cornell University with an MBA, Ms Lau possesses extensive banking and finance experience which includes working as Assistant General Manager & Head of Private Banking at ABN AMRO Bank, Chief of Staff to the first Chairman of Securities & Futures Commission, and serving as executives of Citibank and several major international banks in both Hong Kong and New York.
Apart from her current role as Vice Chairman of HKTA and Chairman of its Retirement Schemes Sub-committee, she is a member of various committees of professional and governmental bodies in Hong Kong including the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association (HKRSA), Hospital Authority, Minimum Wage Commission and the Education Bureau.
The first woman to receive a Director of the Year Award in the “Private Companies, Executive Director” category from the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD), Ms Lau was named “Professional of the Year” in the Women of Influence Awards 2010 jointly organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and South China Morning Post

Alan N. Schoenheimer – Bio
Alan Schoenheimer is chairman for Russell’s activities in the Asia Pacific and chairman of Russell Investments’ Global Innovation Council. Alan is a member of Russell’s executive committee and Russell’s global leadership forum. Alan is a director of Russell’s operating subsidiaries in Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He is also a director of a number of Russell’s investment management subsidiaries, both in Ireland and Australia.
Prior to this role, Alan was managing director for Russell Investments, Australasia, with responsibility for operations in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. He was responsible for developing the strategic direction of Russell businesses in the Australasian region. Alan was involved in the ongoing development of client and business partner relationships and in enhancing the delivery of Russell capabilities to these clients and business partners.
Prior to joining Russell, between 1986 and early 1991, Alan was a consultant with McKinsey & Company, based in Sydney. During this period he participated in a number of studies for major Australian corporations, particularly those in the natural resource and manufacturing industries.
Before gaining his M.B.A., Alan practiced chemical engineering in a number of locations, including oil refineries in Australia and South Africa, and process design offices in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia.

Marco Montanari

Marco Montanari – Bio
Marco Montanari joined Deutsche Bank in 2006 and he is the Head of Deutsche Bank’s ETFs, branded as db X-trackers, in Asia.
Marco brings a wealth of European ETFs experience to Asia. Prior to his appointment in this region, Marco was responsible for developing the European Fixed Income db X-trackers ETFs platform structuring money market, bond, credit, inflation and volatility ETFs and structuring quantitative funds for Deutsche Bank’s European clients.
Before joining Deutsche Bank, Marco spent six years at Société Généralein in Paris where he was responsible for the ETFs structuring in Lyxor Asset Management financial engineers team and for the products listed in the Italian Stock Exchange.

Robert Harrison

Robert heads BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPP IP) in Australia joining in 1999. He has overall responsibility for asset management operations in Australia including sales, business development, client servicing, marketing, funds management and operations. Robert is a member of the BNP Paribas Group (Australia) Management Committee; Director of BNP Paribas Investment Partners (Australia) Ltd, member of the Asia Pacific Regional Management team for BNP Paribas Investment Partners, an employee elected member Trustee of the BNP Paribas Australian Superannuation Plan and Chair of the Plan’s Investment Committee.
Robert is a fellow of the Association of Superannuation Funds in Australia (ASFA) and Member of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST).

Ping-Yi Yee

Ping-Yi Yee – Bio
Mr. Yee Ping Yi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Central Provident Fund Board. The mission of the Central Provident Fund Board is to enable Singaporeans to have a secure retirement. Over a period of 50 years, it has evolved from a simple old age savings plan into a comprehensive social security system providing for not only retirement, but also housing and healthcare needs of Singaporeans. Prior to his appointment in CPFB, Mr Yee served in various senior positions within the Singapore Civil Service, including the position of Deputy Chief Executive of the Singapore Civil Service College.
Mr Yee graduated in 1994 from Cambridge University, UK, with BA(First Class Hons) in electrical engineering. He received an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2001.

Mr. McShane has been an Executive Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority for over 9 years. He heads the Regulation and Policy Division, which is responsible for investment regulation, policy development, research and legal services. Prior to his time at the MPFA, he held various senior roles with the Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC) and before that he also worked with the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation Ltd. (IMRO), the former fund management regulator in the United Kingdom. Prior to his regulatory roles he practised as a Barrister in Australia.

Greg Healy – Bio
Greg Healy has been in the financial services industry for 26 years managing businesses in financial planning, product development and corporate superannuation. Greg is currently based in Singapore where he is Managing Director of AMP Asian Business focussing on the pension market (Enterprise Annuity) in China and is responsible for developing asset management opportunities for AMP Capital Investors in India. Pension reform is also starting to emerge in India as well which will lead to opportunities for foreign asset managers such as AMP.
Greg headed AMP's Corporate Pension business in Australia for 10 years ( through to 2009), leading the transformation of the master trust corporate offer for all segments of the market in Australia. He is a former Chairman of ASFA (2009) and was a Board Director for 9 years before relocating and working in Asia. Greg is a Fellow of ASFA, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
